Virtual Catapult Institute Workshop: Nurturing Values Throughout Your Organization

What enables an organization to truly live into its values? How do leaders create an organization where every member takes ownership over the mission and practices its values on a daily basis? How can an organization's leaders and staff take steps to co-create a culture that uplifts its core values? This workshop will offer frameworks, processes and tactics for nonprofits to build alignment around its values and operationalize those values across the organization to achieve greater impact.

Workshop Objectives

At the conclusion of this workshop series participants will be able to:

  • Understand key concepts related to values and their function in an organization
  • Apply strategies that define and promote an organization’s core values
  • Recognize the behaviors, rituals and processes that reinforce or undermine your organization's core values

About Our Presenters

Tomás Alvarez III

Tomás is an award-winning social entrepreneur and nonprofit executive with 15+ years of experience leading social impact initiatives and dynamic teams. He currently serves as Managing Partner and Strategy Lead at Idea2Form, a consultancy & full-service collaborative design agency specializing in design for social impact. In 2004, Tomás pioneered one of the first Hip Hop Therapy programs and spent over a decade working with local youth, community artists, and clinicians to grow it into a nationally-recognized nonprofit organization and leader in the adolescent mental health space. Since then, he has catalyzed numerous collaborative initiatives, consulted with leading civic sector organizations, and been a champion for several causes focused on racial justice and children’s well-being. Tomás is a visionary thinker, cultural broker, and transformational leader who has been recognized as an Ashoka Fellow, CNN Hero, NBC Latino Top 20 Innovator, and Aspen Institute Scholar. His work has been featured by CNN, Forbes, New York Times, Vice Magazine, Complex, Revolt TV, Stanford Social Innovation Review, and NPR. Tomás has served as a social entrepreneur in residence and adjunct lecturer at Stanford University, where he has co-taught courses on Social Entrepreneurship and Ethics & Politics of Public Service. Through his most recent work with Idea2Form (I2F), Tomás helps individuals, organizations, and communities reach their full changemaking potential.

Don Crocker

Don Crocker is a nationally recognized leader in the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors. He currently serves as a Senior Fellow for the Support Center and is a Senior Fellow for Strategic Initiatives at Services for the Underserved in New York. Don successfully served as Executive Director/CEO for four nonprofits over his career, growing each of these during his tenure. He formerly served as Board member of Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO), and was a former consultant for BoardSource. A small sampling of the numerous grantmaking entities he has partnered with include the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, New York Community Trust, Prudential, JPMorgan Chase, Clark Foundations, and the Victoria, American Express, and PSEG Foundations. He is a professor in NYU's Heyman Center for Philanthropy & Fundraising, holds an MS in Leadership & Strategic Management and a BA in Psychology and was Frank Whitely Lecturer for AFP in New Jersey. Don was awarded the honor of “Leader of Influence” by the NYC Human Services Council in 2016 and was a selection committee member for the New York Times Nonprofit Excellence Awards. Don serves as a senior advisor to the Grunin Capacity Institute.
