A New Way Forward Series - Equity in Action: The Oregon Food Bank Example

May 17, 2023

A New Way Forward Series

Oregon Food Bank began their journey 8 years ago to incorporate equity, diversity, and inclusion principles and practices into every aspect of their work. Today, they have a traditional governance board, however their governance board has delegated all decision making authority over their public policy agenda to a group of people with living experience of hunger, called the Policy Leadership Council. Come hear from Oregon Food Bank CEO (and long time food banker) Susannah Morgan about their journey, dig into other practical examples of what DEI in the nonprofit space looks like in practice, get inspired as to how Boards can adapt their work to include people most impacted, and ask your burning questions.

About the Presenter:

Susannah Morgan has been the Chief Executive Officer since November 2012. Prior to joining Oregon Food Bank, Susannah led the fight against hunger in Alaska for more than a decade as Executive Director of Food Bank of Alaska. Under Susannah’s leadership, Oregon Food Bank is pursuing a bold vision to build resilient communities that never go hungry with a deep commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. During Susannah’s tenure, Oregon Food Bank is expanding food access for historically marginalized communities, supporting robust food systems through rural and urban communities; and building a movement to support public policies that address the root causes of hunger. Susannah received her bachelor’s degree in Japanese Language from Carleton College and her M.B.A. in Public and Nonprofit Management from Boston University. Susannah and her wife, Dr. Jocelyn Krebs, live in NE Portland with their two sons, Rhys and Frey.
