Community Medical Center – Grunin Neuroscience Institute

Grantee, Healthcare

Bringing together a highly skilled interdisciplinary group of specialists to provide the highest quality advanced care to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases of the brain, the spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system.

The People

Community Medical Center (CMC) opened in 1961 and is a fully accredited acute care hospital. CMC offers many services including advanced cancer care, cardiac care, surgical services, obstetric care, a dedicated pediatric unit and more.

The Project

In October 2010, Jay Grunin had to race up north to bring his late wife Linda to a specialized hospital due to severe head injury she sustained from a fall at home. Upon reflection, they realized they had the opportunity to end that “race up north”.

Along with their son Jeremy Grunin, President of the Foundation, they worked with CMC to develop the blueprint of what would become a $3.5 million endowment for the establishment of the Jay and Linda Grunin Neuroscience Institute at the hospital.

Today, the Neuroscience Institute brings together a highly skilled interdisciplinary group of specialists to provide the highest quality advanced care to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases of the brain, the spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Physician specialists, coupled with the hospital’s state-of-the-art technology, treat neurologic disorders including stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s, sleep disorders and many others.

The Impact

The Neuroscience Institute continues to thrive and offers comprehensive care in specialized areas, including:

  • Neuro-Interventional Suite with an integrated state of the art biplane procedure room and pre and post-procedural care areas
  • Neuro-Intensive Care Unit
  • Neuroscience Acute Care Inpatient Unit
  • Operating Suites with specialized technology
  • Radiation Oncology Department with a CyberKnife and highly sophisticated Rapid Arc Linear Accelerator
  • Accredited as a Joint Commission and NJ Department of Health Stroke Center
